Rocky Mount is a city situated within the coastal plains of North Carolina State. Rocky Mount is around 45 minutes from the state capital, Raleigh. The city of Rocky Mount was given an All-America City Award by the National Civic League. The city's population is approximately 57,010. It is situated within Edgecombe and Nash counties.

The city of Rocky Mount is the largest city and principle city in the Rocky Mount Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rocky Mount also belongs to the Combined Statistical Area that consists of both Wilson and Rocky Mount Metropolitan Areas. The entire CSA has a population of more than 200,000 residents.

The region was initially settled in the early 19th century, but it wasn't until 1867, when the town was incorporated. During 1907, Rocky Mount officially became a city and Rocky Mount's very first post office was established in 1816 at the Tar River Falls. The town gets its name from the ledges along the Tar River. During the year 1818 one of North Carolina's very first cotton mills, Rocky Mount Mills, was established there. The town of Battleboro merged with Rocky Mount in the year 1996.

The city of Rocky Mount has a rapidly growing arts scene which consists of an Arts Center and the Imperial Centre for Arts & Sciences. This facility houses a Community Theater and Children's Museum & Science Center. Rocky Mount boasts many parks, like Meadowbrook Park, Sunset Park and Buck Leonard Park.
