Loyalist College


The Loyalist College was established in 1967 as part of an initiative to create institutions that will give Ontario communities the chance to get certificate courses, diplomas, and continuing education programs. Loyalist once operated out of a local high school and moved its home to the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road in 1960. Campus: Facilities, Residence and Location

Loyalist is located between the City of Quinte West and Belleville. Its facilities include: Student Centre, where students hang out to relax, play a game of pool, and grab a coffee; Student Access Labs, computer labs that can accommodate around 1,500 computers. Fitness Centre, rowing machines, stair climbers, elliptical, treadmills, and exercise bikes for students to use to get fit; Cafeteria, a great place for eating; Campus Bookstore, helps supply students their textbooks and other gift items; Library (Parrott Centre), hub for information needs; Conference Facilities, for conferencing activities and meetings, Human Simulation Lab Photo Gallery, and practice for health care professionals before they embark on real clinical settings.

Another service of the campus is residence accommodation. There are five residences located on campus. It has a woody-country feeling to it, with suite style residences that can house 476 students. Each of the residences is apartment-styled with two bathrooms, a common living area, six individual bedrooms, and a kitchen. Each of the bedrooms has a corkboard, bookshelf, night table, dresser, study desk and chair, and a twin captain’s bed. Amenities include cable in the common living area, with telephone jacks and cable jack in each room. Cable TV and other internet services can be arranged, with coin-operated laundry facilities, sports pad with basketball hoops, beach volleyball court, outdoor barbeques, outdoor skating rinks, and sheltered patio. There is also a Residence Centre that provides a coffee shop, lounge area with a fireplace, 2 computer labs, a big screen TV, and living room.

The Student Government is the representative body of the students, and they offer the following services to students: Advocacy, Belleville Transit, Bursaries, Graduation Photos, Hand Sanitizers, Microwaves, Orientation Week, Recycling, Student ID Card and Handbook.

The Loyalist Lancer is the varsity team of the college. Some of the sports they compete at are: Women's Volleyball, Men's Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Men's Basketball, Women's Soccer, Cross-Country, Men's Rugby, and Women's Rugby. Students can also take advantage of the diverse athletic facilities offered by Loyalist. They include a full-sized gymnasium, elliptical gliders, upright and recumbent exercise bikes, rowing machines, treadmills, a stair climber, exercise mats, Swiss balls, BOSU trainer balls, as well as a full range of LifeFitness resistance machines and a wide selection of free weights, two soccer fields, six chevron cushion-coated tennis courts, and a baseball diamond.
