What does a Doctor do to improve health?

Doctors work to improve health and well-being at both the individual and collective societal levels. This can mean many different things - from diagnosing a source of pain or disease and prescribing medication to starting a local campaign to stop smoking. Medicine is an amazingly diverse and flexible field, with physicians working in labs, health clinics, government offices, military settings and even in commercial business. At the clinical level, doctors may choose to work with seniors, children, athletes or those with specific health challenges such as brain, heart or digestive disorders. They often work in teams that include the patient and the patient's family, friends and caregivers plus other health professionals.
