What is Animal Science?


Animal science is described as studying the biology of animals that are under the control of mankind. Historically, the animals studied were farm animals, but courses available now look at a far broader area to include companion animals, for example dogs, cats, horses and captive animals. At the University of Reading, for example, the study of animal science is concerned with the scientific understanding of how animals work: from the physiology and biochemistry of tissues and major organ systems down to the structure and function of biomolecules and cells.
