Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic

The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Program is designed to teach a student how to make, install, repair and service residential, commercial and industrial cooling and heating systems. A student will also learn how to measure, cut and connect piping using welding and brazing equipment.

The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Program can usually be completed within a 5 year time frame. Approx. 28 weeks of the program are designated to in-class study. After graduation, the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic will be expected to know how to recharge systems with refrigerant gases, connect rooftop units to gas, test and balance systems and connect electrical systems. Refrigeration Mechanics must be able to use and adjust computerized controls, use computer software to calculate loads, and work on large machines.
