The Fulbright Program is an international academic exchange program founded in 1946 with an ambitious goal — to increase mutual understanding and support friendly and peaceful relations between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Today, the U.S. government oversees an extensive suite of fellowships and scholarships in partnership with more than 160 countries worldwide.

The Fulbright ProgramFor over 75 years, the Fulbright Program has engaged diverse students, scholars, artists, teachers, and professionals of all backgrounds.  The Program believes that people from different countries and cultures living and learning together will foster mutual understanding among peoples and nations, helping to shape a more positive vision for all communities around the world. A hallmark of the Fulbright Program has been its longstanding commitment to DEIA. The Fulbright Program actively engages and supports individuals from all backgrounds and identities throughout their experience with the program.  Fulbright takes concerted steps to ensure that the Program’s diverse participants have successful and rewarding experiences by incorporating DEIA principles and practices before, during, and after their exchange, including into general programming and administration, outreach and recruitment, selection, placement, post-selection and orientation efforts, on-grant activities (including enrichment and reentry activities), and alumni engagement.

Which type of Fulbright is for you?

STUDENT

If you are a graduating university student, recent graduate, graduate student, early-career artist, language teacher, or other early-career professional, you can apply to pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach your native language abroad.

SCHOLAR

If you are a college or university faculty member or administrator, or a researcher, artist, or experienced professional, you can apply to lecture, conduct research, or pursue short- or long-term professional projects abroad.

EDUCATOR

If you are a primary or secondary school teacher, you can apply to go abroad to pursue individual projects, conduct research, take professional development courses, and share expertise.

PROFESSIONAL

If you are an experienced professional, you can apply to lecture, conduct research, or pursue short- or long-term professional projects abroad; early-career professionals can apply through the student programs. You do not need to be affiliated with a higher education institution to apply.

HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION

If you represent a higher education institution, you can connect with Fulbright to host visiting students and scholars, including individual placements as well as Scholars-in-Residence (for U.S. institutions) or Specialists (for non-U.S. institutions)
